| FIKO's
makeMAP with DWPRaster version 1.70 (base 120 dpi) was
developed as part of its GPS map navigational software
for aviation |
 |
|
and
does geo-reference scanned raster maps of 8-bit colours (256
colour BMP graphical format.
In DWPRaster version 1.70, 224 of these colours are reserved
for the map image palette while the remaining 32 colours are
reserved for the Human Machine Interface ("HMI")
such as icons and other graphical map overlays used in menu,
frames etc. (in DOS mode). |

FIKO's
makeMAP for geo-referencing raster maps. |
Because
makeMAP is a Windows® application software, it's
best suited for PC environment and requires quite a
bit of RAM (512Mb min.) where large map images is to
be loaded into the system.
|
|
makeMAP
has five main sections where section one is for map descriptions,
section two for map size info, section 3 for corner Longitude
and Latitude (for auto calculation of Longitude and Latitude),
and the final two is for fine tuning Longitude and Latitude
positions before saving the map in FIKO's own .MAP format.
In fact makeMAP is easy to use, your DOS or Windows software
must still support FIKO's DWPRaster version 1.70. If you're
looking for more enhanced graphics in 16-bit colours (gives
the possibilities of 65,536 colours) then you need DWPRaster
version 2.0. However, the file size between DWPRaster version
1.70 and 2.0 is about 100% larger so if we take instance the
map of Germany which is say 55Mb in DWPRaster version 1.70,
the same map in DWPRaster version 2.0 would be about 110Mb.
Using the WAYDWP32.DLL from FIKO for loading raster maps, secure
good graphical crop functions so no matter how large the map
file is on file, the map section loaded into memory is just
3x3 of the screen resolution and in this way securing good memory
management and makes the Windows application software run smooth
as silk.
makeMAP is available for purchase online and for access to source
code and information for map integration into your own map or
navigational software, you will need to sign up as DWP Developer
on this link. |
